Maintaining Licenses. Teachers wishing to drop a teaching license must submit a written request to do so with the Superintendent of Schools. Unless their request is approved or the teacher has not been placed in that area of licensure for ten (10) consecutive school years, teachers are required to maintain all areas of licensure held at the time of their hiring by the District. Teachers must also maintain all licenses for which they earned and received lane change credit while working in the District except if the teacher has not been placed in that area of licensure for ten (10) consecutive school years. If a teacher initiates the dropping of the license which qualified the teacher for the teacher’s current assignment, the School District may place the teacher on ULA, and the teacher shall have no bumping rights or realignment rights in another licensure area except if the teacher has not been placed in that area of licensure for ten (10) consecutive school years. Failure to maintain licenses that resulted in a xxxx change will result in loss of lane placement received through credits earned for that license except if the teacher has not been placed in that area of licensure for ten (10) consecutive school years. A teacher not placed in an area of licensure for ten (10) consecutive school years may drop the corresponding license without penalty. A teacher shall not be permitted to exercise seniority to displace another teacher in a different licensure area by initiating the dropping of the license in the subject matter in which the teacher is currently assigned by the School District in order to acquire a different assignment. A teacher requesting a transfer to an open position in the District, for which he/she is licensed, may drop that licensure without penalty if the District rejects the reassignment.
