Common use of MEDICAL-SURGICAL AND MAJOR MEDICAL INSURANCE Clause in Contracts

MEDICAL-SURGICAL AND MAJOR MEDICAL INSURANCE. A. The Employer shall provide health insurance to eligible employees. The insurance carrier(s), program(s), and coverages will be selected and determined by the Employer after meeting and conferring with the Union. The Employer will provide eligible employees with the option of selecting from more than one Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). The Employer will also provide eligible employees the additional option of membership in one of the approved Point of Service/Preferred Provider Organization (POS/PPO) plans as offered to District employees by each of the HMOs, with the eligible employee paying the difference between the amount paid by the Employer toward the highest cost single or family HMO and the cost of the single or family POS/PPO plan. Coverage for eligible employees shall begin on the first of the month following one month of employment if applications are submitted in a timely manner according to the current policy and procedure. The District shall contribute 100% of the premium or premium equivalent cost for the single and family plan for participating employees. Any time after June 30, 2014, the District may implement an insurance contribution of no more than 10% of premium without negotiating with the Union. The District’s authority to unilaterally take action pursuant to this provision shall sunset on June 30, 2015. Any actions taken by the District pursuant to this provision prior to the sunset date shall remain in effect.

Employees who are not working on account of illness or disability and without compensation shall be entitled to continuous health insurance coverage for sixty (60) days. The Employer will recover such premiums paid on behalf of the employee following return to work.
