Monitoring and progression points. The progress of candidates will be formally reviewed by the relevant supervisory boards at the end of the first academic year and thereafter in both mid‐year and end‐of‐year reviews. While the mid‐year review will primarily have a function of monitoring student progress, it may nonetheless contribute to a recommendation to the Academic Board to withdraw a candidate where there is evidence of severe or persistent underperformance. The key function of end‐of‐year review will be to determine whether a candidate may proceed into the next stage of the programme. Accordingly, the supervisory board is required to make its recommendation to the Academic Board as to whether the candidate in question should either (i) be permitted to continue on the programme; or (ii) when in semester 6, be permitted to submit a thesis for examination; or (iii) be required to withdraw.
