Narrative Summary. The importance of the Narrative Summary in the portfolio cannot be overstated. The Narrative Summary that begins each category in the portfolio serves to highlight the important contributions faculty members have made in each of the categories. It provides an opportunity for faculty to reflect on their growth as a faculty member based on the activities they have undertaken and feedback they have received in the years covered by the portfolio. It is a way for faculty to explain how they have met the expectations for tenure or promotion. Focus questions noted earlier can assist faculty with formulating the narrative.
