The application of any prospective transfer student who has been subject to disciplinary action for drug or alcohol violations during the current or previous school year shall be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Head of Schools, taking into account the facts and circumstances of each case. Any student whose application is accepted shall be admitted, at a minimum, under the same status as if the transferring student was a student at Canton Academy at the time the violation occurred. No prospective transfer student’s application shall be accepted if the drug and/or alcohol violation(s) would have resulted in expulsion from Canton Academy. Transferring Students Going into 12th Grade Any student transferring to Canton Academy for their Senior year must be on grade level with all core classes. They must have the necessary number of credits to be classified as a Senior. Senior year transfers must be able to complete all the needed credits for graduation requirements at Canton Academy. They must have no serious discipline issues at former schools. Determination of the severity of the discipline issue will be at the discretion of Canton Academy Administration. Students transferring to Canton Academy for their Senior year are not eligible for financial aid. Immunization Law Recent revisions in Mississippi law now provide that “it shall be unlawful for any child to attend school, kindergarten, or similar type facility intended for the instruction of children, either public or private, unless they first have been vaccinated against those diseases specified by the State Health Officer.” The State Board of Health has developed procedures to carry out this immunization law. Therefore, schools are being directed to achieve 100 percent compliance. The law affects children in kindergarten through the twelfth grade. Enforcement of this Law will require removal of children from classes if they are not adequately immunized. To request a medical exemption from one or more required vaccinations, the MSDH Medical Exemption Request (Form 139-2021 Grading Periods 1st Quarter—August 7M) must be completed and signed by the child's pediatrician, family physician, or internist who is duly licensed in Mississippi. Children receiving specialized or tertiary care outside of the state may have medical exemption requests completed and signed by their tertiary care physician. In compliance with the federal court order, the Mississippi State Department of Health, with approval of the Board of Health, has proposed a religious exemption process that will be publicly available by the court--October 9mandated deadline of July 15, 2020 2nd Quarter--October 12—Dec. 182023. This religious exemption process mirrors the current medical exemption process. Once the request is reviewed and accepted, 2019 3rd Quarter—January 6—March 11a Certificate of Medical/Religious Exemption (Form 122) will be issued. Only the Certificate of Medical/Religious Exemption (Form 122) signed and dated by the State Epidemiologist or Deputy State Epidemiologist provides official, 2020 4th Quarter—March 22—May 21, 2020 Students grades 7th documented proof that a child has been issued an exemption by MSDH. The original Certificate of Medical/Religious Exemption (Form 122) will be housed at MSDH with a copy mailed to the parent and up must remain on grade level with core subjectsthe requesting physician. Any core subjects failed student enrolled in Canton Academy must have an active FACTS account with a valid payment account established. If your Facts account becomes invalid at any point your student can be dismissed until payment is valid. All tuition and fees associated with the enrollment and expenditures of a student must be recovered during summer school to proceed paid on the due date. Tuition payments not paid within ten (10) days of the contract date are considered delinquent. If a monthly tuition payment is not actually received within ten (10) days of the contract date, a late charge of $25.00 will be added to the next grade levelaccount.
