Common use of One Semester Unpaid Leave of Absence for Child-Rearing Clause in Contracts

One Semester Unpaid Leave of Absence for Child-Rearing. Any full-time faculty member who is a biological or adoptive parent of a child/children under the age of twelve (12) years may be granted an unpaid leave of absence for a maximum of one semester for the purpose of rearing each child. If an employee takes a Family and Medical Care Leave for the purpose of bonding with a newborn or newly adopted/placed child, the employee is not eligible to request this Child-Rearing leave until a full 12 months after the Family and Medical Care Leave for the purpose of bonding has ended, unless the employee is authorized in writing to do so by the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Such Child Rearing leave shall be for a full semester and may not begin or end in the middle of any semester. Requests for such unpaid leave of absence shall be made to the Governing Board at least twelve (12) weeks prior to the first day of the semester. If the employee receives fringe benefits through the District, the employee must make arrangements to pay for fringe benefits with Human Resources prior to the unpaid leave.
