Optional Professional Development Hours. For the 2017-2018 school year, all members who assist certificated personnel in providing direct instruction shall have the option of working additional optional professional development hours at their daily rate of pay, that are outside the school day/calendar year. Members may not use Personal Necessity or Sick time to account for these optional professional development hours. The optional professional development hours must be used for professional development aligned to district/school priorities. These optional 2017-18 professional development hours will be scheduled as follows: Six hours of optional District sponsored professional development shall be paid at the member’s pro rata daily rate of pay. The focus will be on the development and implementation of practices that are responsive to the student needs (e.g. language development, differentiation, numeracy and literacy strategies, equity, and classroom management). The dates for these optional days will be calendared as follows: Elementary PD Day = Secondary teacher workday Secondary PD Day = Elementary teacher workday PN and Sick Leave may not be used to cover absence on these optional PD days. Compensation is based on attendance.
Optional Professional Development Hours. Each regularly contracted full-time 14 certificated employee shall be entitled to twenty-one (21) professional development hours 15 pro-rated based on each individual’s contracted FTE, will be available to all regularly 16 contracted, certificated employees. Hours worked are paid at per diem rate, based on the 17 employee’s placement on the combined salary schedule (base + PRS)
18 1. Fourteen (14) Optional Self-Selected Professional Development hours. Optional Self- 19 Selected Professional Development hours may be used for the following:
20 a. District offered professional development,
21 b. SCDM building approved professional development,
22 c. WEA clock hour classes,
23 d. Education Service District (ESD) offered course work aligned to District 24 initiatives, and
25 e. ESA licensure classes applying toward national or state licensure 26 requirements. 27 Exclusive of the list above, for employees wishing to attend courses offered by 28 organizations or institutions outside of the District, the employee may request by 29 completing an online form found on the District’s Professional Development website. 30 This waiver must be submitted at least ten (10) days prior to the start date of the 31 offering. Requests for waivers will be reviewed by the Curriculum and Instruction 32 Department for alignment with the District’s goals, the Strategic Plan, and Building 33 and District improvement plans. Employees will be notified of approval or denial 34 within five (5) work days of the date the request was received.

5 2. Seven (7) Optional Technology Professional Development hours. Technology Hours 6 will be available for the implementation of technology to enhance instruction and 7 overall effectiveness. The District and building will offer designated technology 8 professional growth development opportunities specifically for the use of these 9 optional technology hours. The optional technology hours are contingent upon the 10 approval of the Technology Levy.

Participation is optional, and hours will be paid at the professional development rate of $30. Hours must be pre-approved by the Executive Director of Learning and a Supplemental Pay Form must be completed.

Members may not use Vacation or Sick time to account for these optional professional development hours. The focus will be on the development and implementation of practices that are responsive to student needs. All Translators will receive a salary schedule range increase from Range 14 to Range 15, effective July 1, 2016. All School Controllers will receive a salary schedule range increase from Range 26 to Range 27, effective July 1, 2016. All Occupational Therapists will receive a salary schedule range increase from Range 66 to Range 67, effective July 1, 2016. All Child Development Assistants assigned to the Infant/Toddler and Preschool program requiring 12 units of ECE/Child Development coursework will receive a salary schedule range increase from Range 12 to Range 13, effective July 1, 2016.
