Other Family Members. 1. Employees may use sick leave to care for a child, spouse, domestic partner, parent, parent-in-law, grandparent, or someone in the immediate household (all people living in the same family unit, not necessarily related) with a serious health or emergency condition as certified in writing by a licensed healthcare provider. The District may require the employee to furnish evidence that no alternative to the employee’s absence is practicable. 2. Serious health condition means an illness, injury, impairment, or physical or mental condition that involves any period of incapacity or treatment connected with inpatient care in a hospital and the like. It also includes the period of incapacity or subsequent treatment or recovery in connection with the inpatient care as long as it includes any period of inability to work, attend school or perform other regular daily activities. 3. Emergency condition means a health condition that is a sudden, generally unexpected occurrence related to health that demands immediate action, and is very short term in nature.
