Common use of Pharmacy Assistants Clause in Contracts

Pharmacy Assistants. Note: Pharmacy Assistants shall be permitted to participate in cross-department work, subject to the needs of the Pharmacy Department. Pharmacy Assistant to perform any duties assigned in the Pharmacy Department. Hours worked by Pharmacy Interns and Pharmacist Students shall not impact the hours of work for Pharmacy Assistant. It is understood that this agreement does not cover reductions in hours of work for Pharmacy Assistants that may result due to business fluctuations or situations where Pharmacy Assistants hours temporarily increase due to a temporary vacancy of Pharmacists. It is agreed that should an issue arise in a store regarding the allocation of hours for Pharmacy Assistants the Union may request a meeting with the Employer to review that store’s issue. Such meeting shall take place within two (2) weeks of the request. It is understood that all persons hired in the future for the position of Pharmacy Assistant will be required to have either a Pharmacy Assistant certification from a recognized educational institution, or two (2) years full-time equivalent experience in a dispensary as determined by the Employer. If qualified candidates are not available, the Employer can either canvass existing employees or hire a new employee who is willing to attain the appropriate certification or experience in a dispensary. • An existing employee shall continue on the Wage Scale. • A new employee shall be hired at Step 1 on the Wage Scale, unless they receive credit for previous experience (Section 9.26). • Once qualified as determined by the Employer, the employee shall be placed on the Pharmacy Assistant scale at the next highest rate.
