Police Internship Program. a) In a joint effort to promote diversity the City and Association agree that the Austin Police Department may create and implement a Police Internship Program for individuals who are interested in becoming Austin Police Officers. Anyone hired into or volunteers to participate in the Police Internship Program must pass the same screening and testing procedures as applicants for the position of Police Cadet, either at the beginning, or at the end of their participation in the Program, and/or at the time they become eligible for placement on an eligibility list, at the discretion of the Chief. The duration of the Police Internship Program will be at least the equivalent of a college semester.
