Common use of Professional Freedom Clause in Contracts

Professional Freedom. Employees shall be guaranteed professional freedom in classroom presentations and discussions and may introduce politically, religiously, or otherwise controversial material provided this is done on an informative basis only in conformity with school district policy directives. When such an issue is discussed, it is the responsibility of the teacher to encourage equal discussion on all sides of the issue. Teachers should guard against giving their personal opinions or views on controversial issues before and during the period of research and study, thus encouraging the student to search after truth and to think for themselves. Teachers who operate within these regulations shall have the full support of the Board and administration. No mechanical or electronic device shall be utilized in any classroom or brought in on a temporary basis which would allow a person to be able to listen to or record the procedures in any class without the prior knowledge of the employees involved.
