PTO Request Procedure. PTO requests for the period of April 1 to September 30 must be submitted in writing by the employee between January 1 and January 31. Requests for the period between October 1 and March 30 must be submitted in writing by the employee between June 1 and June 30. The Employer will respond to requests submitted during these two submittal periods within fifteen (15) days after the period closes. Requests will be granted on the basis of seniority. PTO requests submitted outside these two submittal windows shall be granted based on the date of submission, and employees shall be notified of approval or disapproval as soon as possible but not later than thirty (30) days. Within each department, the Employer will post a seniority roster and a vacation calendar. The purpose of this calendar is to provide employees with the opportunity to view vacation requests of other more senior employees. In addition to submitting the written requests for PTO to their supervisor, it is also the responsibility of the employee to place the request(s) they submit to their supervisor on the calendar. Prime time summer vacation shall be from June 15 through September 15. Employees are limited to two (2) calendar weeks of PTO during summer prime time unless there are no conflicts. Employees who are denied summer prime time vacation in one year shall have priority over the least senior employee whose request would have otherwise been granted for prime time summer vacation in the next year. Prime time holidays shall be defined as Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, including the day immediately preceding the actual holiday and the day immediately following the actual holiday. Prime time holiday work and vacation shall be rotated. All PTO must be scheduled in advance in accordance with Hospital policies and be approved by supervision. The Employer shall have the right to schedule PTO in such a way as will least interfere with patient care and work load requirements of the Hospital. Patient care needs will take precedence over individual requests. Generally PTO may not be taken in increments of less than the employee's regular work day. Under special circumstances and only when approved by supervision, partial days may be granted. Except for unforeseeable conditions beyond the Employer's control, the Employer will make every reasonable effort not to cancel previously approved PTO. Employees may not be required to provide their own coverage during a scheduled PTO that was previously approved.

PTO Request Procedure. Should the Medical Center be unable to find adequate coverage for a nurse’s requested scheduled PTOs or requested scheduled unpaid time off, a nurse’s request for PTO requests hours or unpaid time off may be denied even though a nurse has given the required advance notice under Section 14.9. A decision to deny a request will be made no later than the third (3rd) day before the schedule’s posting deadline. Prior to the date the schedule is posted, the Medical Center will attempt to notify the nurse of the action on the request. If a request is granted for a block of PTOs of five consecutive workdays or more, the nurse will not be scheduled to work during that time period without the nurse's consent. Once approved and scheduled, a nurse’s PTOs or unpaid time off shall not be unilaterally changed by the Medical Center. If more than one nurse in a unit asks for the period same time off, and gives the required advance notice under the scheduling article, but the operational and staffing needs of April 1 the Medical Center will not allow all such nurses to September 30 must be submitted in writing take this time off, the nurse(s) with the longer continuous employment of any type by the employee between January 1 Medical Center, commencing with the most recent date of hire, will be given preference; except as provided below with respect to certain “priority” requests.
