Qualifications Allowance. (i) An employee employed in the classification of Registered Nurse/Midwife (years 1 to 8), Clinical Nurse Specialist/Clinical Midwife Specialist, Nursing/Midwifery Unit Manager, Nurse/Midwife Manager Grade 1, Nurse/Midwife Manager Grade 2 or Nurse/Midwife Manager Grade 3 and above (who satisfies the employer that the employee is engaged in clinical work for more than 50% of the employee’s time) who holds a continuing education qualification in a clinical field, in addition to the qualification leading to registration, shall be paid a continuing education allowance, subject to the following conditions set out below: (a) the allowance is only payable where the qualification is accepted by the employer to be directly relevant to the competency and skills used by the nurse/midwife in the duties of the position. The allowance will be payable from the date of application by the employee; (b) an employee holding more than one relevant qualification is only entitled to one allowance, being the allowance of the highest monetary value; (c) the employee claiming entitlement to a qualification allowance must provide evidence to the employer that they hold that qualification; (d) An allowance shall be absorbed into any over agreement rate being paid to an employee; (e) No allowance is payable before the first pay period to commence on or after 1 March 2009; (f) An allowance shall only be payable in the areas of intensive care, coronary care, cardiac or cardiothoracic nursing, midwifery, mental health, rehabilitation, perioperative nursing, anaesthetics and recovery. Emergency will be recognised in the relevant corresponding work area; and (g) Any such areas as may be agreed between the employee and if requested by the employee a workplace representative and the employer. (ii) Subject to the provisions in subclause (i) of this clause, an employee who holds a post-registration hospital certificate listed in Schedule 1 shall be paid an allowance of an amount set out in Item 20 Table 2 – Other Rates and Allowances, of Part B, Monetary Rates. In addition the following criteria will apply: (a) The course of study successfully undertaken is assessed by the employer as being of an equivalent standard to a post graduate certificate. This will include that the certificate course curriculum is/was accredited with College of Nursing or registered training facility and was of at least 160 hours of lecture/tutorial content. (b) If the certificate was achieved prior to 1 January 1990 the employee will also need to produce evidence in accordance with the above. (iii) Subject to the provisions in subclause (i) of this clause, an employee who holds a post-graduate certificate listed in Schedule 1 shall be paid an allowance of an amount set out in Item 21 Table 2 – Other Rates and Allowances, of Part B, Monetary Rates. (iv) Subject to the provisions in subclause (i) of this clause, an employee who holds a post-graduate diploma or degree listed in Schedule 1 (other than an undergraduate nursing degree) shall be paid an allowance of an amount set out in the said Item 22 of Table 2. (v) Subject to the provisions in subclause (i) of this clause, an employee who holds a masters degree or doctorate shall be paid an allowance of an amount set out in of the said Item 23 of Table 2.

Qualifications Allowance. (ii) The employee must demonstrate and the employer must agree that the qualification is relevant to the performance of the highest monetary value;employee’s work in residential aged care and specifically in one of the following areas: - gerontological nursing, or management, or another qualification with a component that has application to nursing in aged care. (ciii) In considering whether a component of the employee qualification is relevant, the nature of the qualification and the current area of practice of the qualification holder are the main criteria. Other considerations may include the clinical or other area of work of the Registered nurse, the classification and position description of the Registered nurse and whether the qualification would assist the Registered nurse in performing her or his role and/or assist in maintaining quality patient care and/or assist in the administration of the area in which the Registered nurse is employed. (iv) ‘Base rate’ under this sub-clause shall be defined as the weekly rate applicable to a Registered Nurse, Grade 1, pay point 4. (v) A Registered nurse claiming entitlement to a qualification allowance must provide evidence to the employer evidence of that they hold that qualification; (d) An allowance Registered nurse holding the qualification for which the entitlement is claimed. Payment shall be absorbed into any over agreement rate being paid to an employee; (e) No allowance is payable before from the first pay period to commence on or after 1 March 2009; (f) An allowance shall only be payable in evidence of the areas of intensive carequalification is submitted to the employer or the date the qualification is obtained, coronary care, cardiac or cardiothoracic nursing, midwifery, mental health, rehabilitation, perioperative nursing, anaesthetics and recovery. Emergency will be recognised in whichever is the relevant corresponding work area; and (g) Any such areas as may be agreed between the employee and if requested by the employee a workplace representative and the employerlater. (iivi) Subject For the avoidance of doubt, a qualification allowance cannot be claimed by a Registered nurse in respect of that employee’s base qualification leading to registration as a Registered nurse with the provisions exception of an honours degree. a Master’s degree or a Doctorate. (vii) Certificates obtained from training or education facilities shall be recognised provided that the programs are equivalent to a University/Graduation certificate and the training/education facility verifies that in subclause writing. (iviii) of this clause, an employee A Registered nurse who holds a post-registration hospital certificate listed in Schedule 1 Hospital Certificate or Graduate Certificate (or equivalent) shall be paid an allowance paid, in addition to their salary, 4.0% of an amount set out in Item 20 Table 2 – Other Rates and Allowances, of Part B, Monetary Rates. In addition the following criteria will apply: (a) The course of study successfully undertaken is assessed by the employer as being of an equivalent standard to a post graduate certificate. This will include that the certificate course curriculum is/was accredited with College of Nursing or registered training facility and was of at least 160 hours of lecture/tutorial contentbase rate. (bix) If the certificate was achieved prior A Registered nurse who holds a Post-Graduate Diploma or a Degree (or equivalent) (other than a nursing undergraduate degree), an honours degree or a double degree, shall be paid, in addition to 1 January 1990 the employee will also need to produce evidence in accordance with the aboveher or his salary, 6.5% of base rate. (iiix) Subject to the provisions in subclause (i) of this clause, an employee A Registered nurse who holds a post-graduate certificate listed in Schedule 1 Masters (including a Master’s degree completed prior to, or that leads to registration), shall be paid an allowance paid, in addition to their salary, 7.5% of an amount set out in Item 21 Table 2 – Other Rates and Allowances, of Part B, Monetary Ratesbase rate. (ivxi) Subject to the provisions in subclause (i) of this clause, an employee A Registered nurse who holds a post-graduate diploma or degree listed in Schedule 1 (other than an undergraduate nursing degree) Doctorate, shall be paid an allowance paid, in addition to their salary, 8.5% of an amount set out in the said Item 22 of Table 2base rate. (vxii) Subject The above allowances are to the provisions in subclause (i) of this clause, an employee who holds a masters degree or doctorate shall be paid an during all periods of leave except Personal leave beyond 21 days in any twelve month period and Long service leave. In the case of annual leave, the employee would not receive the allowance of an amount set out in of the said Item 23 of Table 2addition to leave loading. (xiii) The allowance is to be paid on a pro-rata basis for part-time employees, including casuals.

Qualifications Allowance. (i) An employee employed in the classification of Effective 09 January 2006, an Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse/Midwife (years 1 to 8), Clinical Nurse Specialist/Clinical Midwife Specialist, Nursing/Midwifery Unit Manager, Nurse/Midwife Manager Grade Level 1, Nurse/Midwife Manager Grade 2 or Nurse/Midwife Manager Grade 3 and above (who satisfies 3, upon production of evidence of the employer that attainment of a qualification recognised under this sub-clause, shall be entitled to a weekly Qualification Allowance as detailed below. This allowance is payable if: a) The qualification is relevant to the area in which the employee is engaged in clinical working or to the work for more than 50% of performed by the employee’s time; or the Employer requires the employee to hold a particular post graduate tertiary qualification from a recognised training institution (or equivalent); b) who holds a continuing education The qualification in question is one other than a clinical field, in addition qualification for which the employee is benefiting from “accelerated advancement” under clause 5.3.7(a) of this Agreement; c) The qualification must be university based or another credential of equivalent value specifically approved by Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland Limited.
