Record Count Variable (NUMCOND. The variable NUMCOND indicates the total number of condition records which can be linked from HC-006: Medical Conditions File to each emergency room visit. For events where no condition records linked (NUMCOND=0), the condition and procedure and clinical classification code variables all have a value of -1 INAPPLICABLE. Similarly, for events without a linked second or third condition record, the corresponding second or third condition, clinical classification code and procedure code variables were set to -1 INAPPLICABLE. In order to obtain complete condition information for events with NUMCOND greater than 3, the analyst must link to the MEPS Condition File (HC-006). Please see Section 5.0 for details on linking MEPS data files.
