Reduced Work Week Schedule. In the event the University reduces the number of hours in the work week for a Bargaining Unit position, the affected employee shall have ten (10) working days’ notice of the reduction. Notice of such reduction shall concurrently be sent to the Association and to the affected employee. The employee shall, by a written statement, either accept the reduced work week or elect to exercise their seniority rights in accordance with the layoff procedures within five (5) working days after receipt of the notice. After receipt of the notice, the Association may, in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement, request a special conference for the purpose of discussing the reduced work week. A grievance on the impact of the reduction of the work week schedule on any employee may be initiated at the third step of the grievance procedure. In the event any employee has their hours reduced in accordance with this Article, the following shall apply: a. Notice of the reduction of hours shall include the number of hours to be reduced and the duration of time such reduction shall exist. b. The workload requirements of the affected employee will be commensurate with the number of hours the employee is scheduled to work. c. For the duration of this Agreement, any reduction in hours for a full-time employee shall be limited to a maximum of eight (8) hours per week so that the work week shall be four (4) consecutive eight (8) hour days unless other scheduling arrangements are made between the employee and their supervisor. d. For the duration of this Agreement, any reduction in hours for a part-time employee shall be limited to the maximum of twenty (20) percent per week. e. No other part-time position shall be created in the affected employee’s department provided the affected employee has the current ability to satisfactorily perform the work available. f. No non-Bargaining Unit employee shall perform the work formerly assigned to the affected employee. g. No student assistants shall perform work formerly assigned to the affected employee. h. The University will, prior to employing any new people in any department, give work opportunity to employees whose work week has been reduced, subject to the affected employees’ current ability to satisfactorily perform the work available. In the event that there are employees on layoff status and employees with their work week reduced at the same time when vacancies occur, the employee with the most seniority shall have first claim on the job vacancy. i.
