Serving in Public Office. 24.8.1 A leave of absence without pay shall be granted to any teacher upon application to the Board for the purpose of campaigning for a county, state or national public office. 24.8.2 If such teacher is successful in election to public office requiring less than full-time employment during the school year, the Board shall deduct 1/184th of salary for each day of leave that the public office requires. 24.8.3 If such teacher is successful in election to public office requiring full-time employment during the school year, the teacher shall be granted an extended leave of absence without pay for the period of actual duty in the public office, but shall retain all accrued rights of tenure, retirement, leave, salary increments, and other benefits which shall be available upon return from leave. 24.8.4 Full-time employment shall be defined, for the purpose of this article only, as absence from the classroom for a period of time equal to four (4) nine-week grading periods in a single school year. 24.8.5 Public service shall not include serving on the Xxxxx 12 Board of Education. Per Board Policy 2.6 – Employment, Compensation and Benefits, a teacher may not serve on the Board of Education while employed by the district.
