Sick Leave Without Pay for Illness. A. A sick employee who has exhausted all of his/her sick leave or extra sick leave to which he/she is entitled shall be considered automatically on leave without pay (not to exceed 30 days) with the Board's approval, until such employee returns to work. Leave without pay for illness constitutes a protection of one's employment rights. A person on such leave is eligible for vacation or holiday pay while absent, according to the following condition: All employees eligible for vacation accrual, employed on an annual or monthly basis, may receive pay for vacation while on leave without pay for illness only for the number of days they have accrued. B. The preceding paragraph shall not apply to persons receiving compensation for illness or injury-in- line-of-duty. C. Employees whose illness requires an absence of over 30 days must file an application for extended sick leave indicating the anticipated length of such absence and supported by a statement from competent medical authority.
