Student Behavior Supports. The Board of Directors, administration and staff shall support a behavior support policy that is consistent in application throughout the district, always taking fairness into consideration. In the maintenance of a sound learning environment, the district shall establish and enforce standards for acceptable behavior on the part of all students who attend schools in the District. Discipline shall be enforced fairly and consistently, and with consideration for racial equity. The Board and the Superintendent shall support and uphold teachers in their efforts to maintain equitable discipline in the district and shall give timely response to all teachers' requests regarding discipline problems provided the teacher has followed established District policy. Copies of the District policy shall be provided to each teacher at orientation or before the first student day, whichever occurs first. Student discipline and equity shall be a standing agenda item at the liaison meetings. In order to preserve a safe, beneficial and humane learning environment for all students and staff in the Centralia School District, the following principles are established: 1. Any student who creates a disruption of the educational process and/or violation of disciplinary standards while under a teacher's immediate supervision, may be excluded by the teacher from his or her individual classroom and instructional activity area for all or any portion of the balance of the school day or up to the following two days or until the principal or designee and teacher have conferred, whichever occurs first; PROVIDED that, except in extenuating circumstances, the teacher shall have first attempted interventions; PROVIDED FURTHER that, in no event, without the consent of the teacher, shall an excluded student be returned during the balance of that class or activity period.
