Student Relations. RATIONALE: Effectiveness as a school psychologist/social worker is contingent upon an ability to develop rapport with students. Trust, respect, and caring must be evident in meaningful relationships with students. STANDARDS FOR SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE: The psychologist/social worker consistently: • develops positive working relationships with students, individually and in groups; • demonstrates effective listening skills; • is available to students; • demonstrates techniques for developing relationships with difficult, "at-risk," and/or uncooperative students; • is seen by students as a helpful resource in the school; • is empathetic and genuine.
