Systemic Lupus Erythematous. I) A multi-system, multifactorial, autoimmune disorder characterised by the development of auto- antibodies directed against various self-antigens. Systemic lupus erythe-matosus will be restricted to those forms of systemic lupus erythematosus which involve the kidneys (Class III to Class V lupus nephritis, established by renal biopsy, and in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO) classification).
