Transmission encryption. All data transmissions of DOM PHI or PII outside the secure internal network must be encrypted using TLS 1.2 SHA-256 or higher encryption. This requirement pertains to any type of PHI or PII in motion including, but not limited to, website access, file transfer, and E-Mail.

Encryption can be end to end at the network level, or the data files containing PHI or PI can be encrypted.
