Trends of Area and Production of Sample Clauses

Trends of Area and Production of. Rice Seeds Between the period 1993-94 to 1995-96, seed farmers have exhibited a decline in both average area and production devoted to rice seed multiplication, while overall yield has been static (see tables 37-39). This information, combined with the rising participation of PSI and GPS farmers in seed multiplication (see section 2), implies that the new farmers that enter into the sub-sector are mostly small farmers. The trend in average area and production has been common to both irrigated and rain-fed rice. In the case of irrigated rice, however, rice yields have increased by about 5 percent from 2018 kg/ha to 2109 kg per ha (see Table 3.38). Within this overall context, PSI farmers have exhibited a certain dynamism, particularly with respect to their improvement in yield of irrigated rice — yields have risen from 1751 kg/ha to 1979 kg/ha. This might be a reflection of better linkages between PSI farmers and research and extension organizations. GPS farm performance has been mediocre, as they have increased irrigated rice yields only slightly from 2226 kg/ha to 2248 kg/ha.
