TRIAL SET 4 Sample Clauses

TRIAL SET 4. Dermal transfer from hard surfaces (Dermal Transfer Study) In order to investigate dermal transfer from hard surfaces likely to be contaminated in greenhouses, application equipment and residential areas (i.e. plastic, metal, wood) modified existing techniques were used to simulate pressure contact with gloved hand (glove was just used as a monitoring dosimeter for the hand either dry or moist to simulate sweat from hands or water on the crops from dew/condensation or rain).Sampling matrices were in contact with a range of surfaces contaminated with known amounts of Pesticide B and the amount of a.s. loaded on these matrices was determined. This was done with replicated and repeated actions for loading which involved static pressure using a metal plate (1.177kg weight) with dimensions of 10cm x 12cm, which was inserted into the cotton glove tested. An additional weight of 6.8kg was placed on the glove when in contact with the contaminated (sprayed) surface. The glove was left in contact with the sprayed surface for 10, 30 or 50 seconds (achieved with repeated 10 sec contacts of the dosimeter with different areas of the surface). Both wet and dry gloves were used for the trial. The surfaces (1x1 m2) had been sprayed inside a greenhouse while placed flat on the ground of the inter-row corridor. The spray solution used was Pesticide B prepared at the same concentration as used for the worker exposure trials. The detailed sampling scheme is described in Table 5. In addition, five cotton dosimeters (each 30 x 30 cm2) were placed between the tested surfaces as shown in Figure 1. The dosimeters were sprayed concurrently with the 3 surfaces. The description of the analytical procedure is provided in paragraph 3.2.5.1. 5 2 wood metal plastic GH DOOR Figure 1:Schematic description of the placement of the three tested surfaces (wood, metal, plastic) and the five cotton dosimeters in the inter-row space of the greenhouse sprayed.
