ULTRAVIOLET FLAME DETECTORS Sample Clauses

ULTRAVIOLET FLAME DETECTORS. The control system continuously monitors for presence or absence of flame. Cooled flame detectors are installed in several combustors. The detector consists of a small gas filled tube with two closely spread electrodes. An electronic package containing a power supply applies a high DC voltage across the electrodes. When ultraviolet (UV) radiation is present, it causes a discharge within the tube, which results in a current pulse and discharge of the power supply. The power supply recharges and the discharge process continues to repeat as long as the UV radiation is present. The presence of flame is determined by the electronic package which measures the pulse frequency, and relays the flame condition to the gas turbine control system. The "FAILURE TO FIRE" or "LOSS OF FLAME" is indicated on the control panel.
