Utility Trench Backfill. Material excavated from the utility trenches may be used for backfill provided it does not contain unsuitable material or particles larger than 4 inches.
Utility Trench Backfill. The area bounded by the proposed finished subgrade and the cover material over the respective pipe or conduit. This material shall conform with applicable requirements for embankment or structural backfill depending on the area or zone into which the utility is installed.

B. Place and compact bedding course on trench bottoms and where indicated. Shape bedding course to provide continuous support for bells, joints, and barrels of pipes and for joints, fittings, and bodies of conduits.
C. Backfill voids with satisfactory soil while removing shoring and bracing.
D. Place and compact initial backfill of satisfactory soil, free of particles larger than 1-inch in any dimension, to a height of 12-inches over the pipe or conduit.
1. Carefully compact initial backfill under pipe haunches and compact evenly up on both sides and along the full length of piping or conduit to avoid damage or displacement of piping or conduit. Coordinate backfilling with utilities testing.
E. Place and compact final backfill of satisfactory soil or Control Density Backfill Material to final subgrade elevation.
F. Install warning tape directly above utilities, 12-inches below finished grade, except 6-inches below subgrade under pavements and slabs.
G. All trenches located within Public Rights of Way (streets and sidewalks) shall be backfilled with Controlled Density Backfill Material above the initial backfill subgrade.
