Acute toxicity definition

Acute toxicity means concurrent and delayed adverse effects that result from an acute exposure and occur within any short observation period, which begins when the exposure begins, may extend beyond the exposure period, and usually does not constitute a substantial portion of the life span of the organism.
Acute toxicity means the ability of a hazardous substance to cause injury or death to an organism as a result of a short-term exposure to a hazardous substance.
Acute toxicity means that level of pollutants which would rapidly induce a severe and unacceptable impact on organisms.

Examples of Acute toxicity in a sentence

  • Acute toxicity testing is a direct measurement of the toxicity of the discharge on juvenile fish.

  • Acute toxicity was more common in the vaginal brachytherapy/chemotherapy group [54] (see Variant 3).

  • Ingestion Expected to be a low ingestion hazard Information on toxicological effects Acute toxicity Components Unknown Species Test Results Prolonged skin contact may cause temporary irritation Direct contact with eyes may cause temporary irritation mutagenic or genotoxic.

  • Acute toxicity of brief exposures to HF, HCl, NO2 and HCN with and without CO.

More Definitions of Acute toxicity

Acute toxicity means when 50 percent or more mortality is observed for either species (See Part I.C of this permit.) at any effluent concentration. Mortality in the control must simultaneously be 20 percent or less for the effluent results to be considered valid.
Acute toxicity means toxicity involving a stimulus severe enough to induce a response
Acute toxicity means toxicity involving a stimulus severe enough to induce a response in 96 hours of exposure or less. Acute toxicity is not always measured in terms of lethality, but may include other toxic effects that occur within a short time period.
Acute toxicity means the response of an aquatic organism to a concentration of a substance which results in injury or mortality within a period of 96 hours or less.
Acute toxicity means that level of pollutants which would rapidly induce a severe and unaccept- able impact on organisms.
Acute toxicity means toxicity involving a stimulus severe enough to induce a rapid response. In aquatic toxicity tests, an effect observed in 96 hours or less is considered acute.
Acute toxicity means a toxic effect which occurs immediately or shortly after a single exposure.
