American National Standards Institute or "ANSI" is a private, non- profit organization representing more than 1,300 corporations, 30 government agencies, 20 institutions and 250 trade, labor, consumer, technical and professional organizations which sets voluntary standards for the United States (U.S.). ANSI has established an Information Infrastructure Standards Panel. ANSI is appointed by the U.S. State Department as a representative of the U.S. to the ITU's International Standards Organization.
