Annual Reassignment definition

Annual Reassignment. As described in 40.1.5 of Chapter 5 of the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Manual, CMS has the discretion to re-assign LIS beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Prescription Drug Plans that will have a premium above the low-income premium subsidy amount (i.e., benchmark) in the following year, unless the plan volunteers to waive the de minimis amount of the premium above the benchmark. CMS will conduct the reassignment in the fall of each year, and ensure all affected LIS beneficiaries are notified.
