Categorically needy means those persons who are eligible for medical assistance under this article and articles 5 and 6 of this title due to their eligibility for one or more of the federal categories of public assistance. A person may be categorically needy and eligible for medical assistance under mandatory provisions as provided under section 25.5-5-101 or may be categorically needy under optional provisions as provided under section 25.5-5-201.
