Examples of Commonwealth country in a sentence
Any person who is a British citizen, a qualifying citizen of another Commonwealth country or a citizen of the Irish Republic, who has reached the age of 18 and is not otherwise disqualified may stand as a candidate at a Parliamentary election.
Commonwealth country means a country (other than Australia) that is, or was at the relevant time, a part of the Dominions of the Crown, and includes: (a) a state, province or other territory that is one of 2 or more territories that together form, or formed at the relevant time, a discrete part of such a country; and (b) a place that is, or was at the relevant time, a territory, dependency or colony (however described) of a part of such a country.
Other magistrates, legally qualified in a Commonwealth country, are appointed to preside over the Court in matters outside the powers of the Island Magistrate.
Commonwealth veteran means a person who rendered continuous full‑time service as a member of: (a) the naval, military or air forces; or (b) the nursing or auxiliary services of the naval, military or air forces; or (c) the women’s branch of the naval, military or air forces; of a Commonwealth country during a period of hostilities.
The provisions of this section shall have the same operation in relation to the Republic of Ireland and to the citizens thereof, and to ships registered therein or belonging thereto, and to persons who belong or have belonged to those ships, and to all other persons on board those ships, as if the Republic of Ire- land were a Commonwealth country and as if the citizens thereof were British subjects.
