Death in the immediate family definition

Death in the immediate family means mother, father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, spouse, child, sibling, grandparents, or significant other.

Examples of Death in the immediate family in a sentence

  • Death in the immediate family - four (4) days will be granted for a death in the immediate family (husband, wife, parent, registered domestic partner, parent-in-law, child, brother, sister, grandchild, grandparent or member of the immediate household).

  • Death in the immediate family shall be defined as death of father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, wife, grandfather, grandmother, grandchildren, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, niece, nephew, uncle, aunt, fiancée or any other relative permanently living in the home of the employee.

  • Death in the immediate family is construed to be the death of a staff member's spouse, child, step children, xxxxxx children, father or father-in-law, mother or mother-in-law, brother or sister, grandfather or grandmother or grandchild.

For the purposes of this definition, a Person shall be considered the spouse of an individual if such Person is legally married to such individual, lives in a civil union with such individual or is the common law partner (as defined in the Income Tax Act (Canada) as amended from time to time) of such individual. A Person who was the spouse of an individual within the meaning of this paragraph immediately before the death of such individual shall continue to be considered a spouse of such individual after the death of such individual;
