Flood Protection definition

Flood Protection means the undertaking of permanent structural work to protect residences so that the underside of floor joists are above 250.9 metres above sea level.

Rehabilitation of the stormwater ponds is expected to reduce downstream flow rates, improve water quality, reduce erosion velocities, and be incorporated as a floodplain reduction or storage area. • Invasive Species Removal: Identity invasive species, develop a removal action plan and provide preventive maintenance plan. • Enhance Community Resilience: Identify and characterize Eleven Mile Creek Stream Restoration area vulnerabilities (including flooding, hurricanes, future development). Actions should improve public and private infrastructure resiliency by balancing natural and built environments. Project Information The Eleven Mile Creek Basin covers approximately 22,000 acres in west central Escambia County. The mainstream channel is fed by 56 different contributing tributaries, including Eight Mile Creek, Ten Mile Creek, Coffee Creek, and Xxxxx Branch. Eleven Mile Creek eventually discharges to upper Perdido Bay near the mouth of the Perdido River. Escambia County completed a Stormwater Management Master Plan in 1994. Subsequent targeted updates were made in 1999 and 2008 to address flooding from extreme storm events, creek degradation, and water quality needs.   • Flood Protection System means those physical structural works for which funds have been authorized, appropriated, and expended and which have been constructed specifically to modify flooding in order to reduce the extent of the area within a community subject to a "special flood hazard" and the extent of the depths of associated flooding. Such a system typically includes hurricane tidal barriers, dams, reservoirs, levees or dikes. These specialized flood modifying works are those constructed in conformance with sound engineering standards.

  • Flood Insurance Regulations means (i) the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 as now or hereafter in effect or any successor statute thereto, (ii) the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973 as now or hereafter in effect or any successor statue thereto, (iii) the National Flood Insurance Reform Act of 1994 (amending 42 USC 4001, et seq.), as the same may be amended or recodified from time to time, and (iv) the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2004 and any regulations promulgated thereunder.

In “Special Flood Hazard Areas” where Base Flood Elevations (BFEs) have been determined, this elevation shall be the BFE plus two (2) feet of freeboard. In “Special Flood Hazard Areas” where no BFE has been established, this elevation shall be at least two (2) feet above the highest adjacent grade.
