National Security System definition

National Security System means a telecommunications or information system operated by the Federal Government, the function, operation, or use of which involves intelligence activities, cryptologic activities related to national security, command and control of military forces, equipment that is an integral part of a weapon or weapons system; or, is critical to the direct fulfillment of military or intelligence missions, not including a system to be used for routine administrative and business applications (including payroll, finance, logistics, and personnel management applications). Non-IT may include imbedded IT components including software, IT hardware, and other items and services traditionally considered IT on IT requirements. Non-IT professional services are not considered ancillary support services. Non-IT professional services are considered to be within the primary scope of OASIS SB.
National Security System. ’ means an informa- tion system that is protected at all times by policies and procedures established for the processing, maintenance, use, sharing, dis- semination or disposition of information that has been specifically authorized under criteria established by statute or Executive Order to be kept classified in the interest of national defense or foreign policy.
