Protection in Place definition

Protection in Place means any action taken to avoid damaging a Utility which does not involve removing or relocating that Utility, including staking the location of a Utility, exposing the Utility, avoidance of a Utility’s location by construction equipment, installing steel plating or concrete slabs, encasement in concrete, temporarily de-energizing power lines, and installing physical barriers. The term includes both temporary measures and permanent installations meeting the foregoing definition.
Protection in Place means any action taken to avoid damaging a utility facility which does not involve removing or relocating that facility, including but not limited to staking the location of a facility, exposing the facility, locating construction equipment so as to avoid impacts to facilities, installing steel plating or concrete slabs, encasement in concrete, temporarily de-energizing power lines, and installing physical barriers. For example, temporarily lifting power lines without cutting them would be considered a Protection in Place; whereas temporarily moving power lines to another location after cutting them would be considered a phased Utility Adjustment and not a Protection in Place. The term “Protection in Place” includes both temporary measures and permanent installations meeting the foregoing definition.
