Safe Drinking Water Program definition

Safe Drinking Water Program means the regulatory activities conducted by the Department to carry out the provisions and purposes of the State Act and portions of the Water Supply Management Act, N.J.S.A. 58:1A-1 et seq., addressing the provisions of adequate storage, emergency plans, and reducing the amount of unaccounted for water. The program also carries out regulatory activ- ities of N.J.S.A. 58:11-9.1 et seq. controlling the interconnections between public community wa- ter systems and unapproved water systems, and establishes standards for construction and proce- dures for certifications pursuant to the Reality Improvement, Sewerage and Facilities Act, N.J.S.A. 58:11-23 et seq.

Safe Drinking Water Program means the Department’s responsibilities with respect to the reduction of the incidence and risk of waterborne disease and public exposure to hazardous substances in drinking water, as promulgated by the OHA under the annual Financial Assistance Award to the County, acting as the Local Public Health Authority. These responsibilities are currently set forth in Program Element #50 of the PH FAA, and must be adhered to by the Department, as they are currently constituted and may be subsequently revised.
