Technical Rehearsal definition

Technical Rehearsal is defined as a rehearsal in which any three (3) of the following four (4) elements are all present or when all four (4) are present: lighting, sound, scenery (props), stage hands.

Technical Rehearsal. A ‘Technical Rehearsal’ (‘Tech Rehearsal’) is a rehearsal with all ARTISTS and supernumeraries focused on the technical aspects of the production: lighting, movement of sets and scenery, props, special effects, costumes, wigs and makeup. Not all ARTISTS wear costumes, wigs or makeup. ARTISTS may vocally mark during a Technical Rehearsal except when the COMPANY specifically requests otherwise. TOUR: A tour is when an ARTIST is required to perform outside of the city of origination and an overnight stay is required. WANDEL PROBE (‘move and sing’): A ‘Wandel Probe’ is a music rehearsal with the orchestra and all ARTISTS. During the rehearsal ARTISTS move through their approximate positions on stage during the progression of scenes. There are typically no costumes, wigs or makeup. The rehearsal usually takes place on the performance stage but may or may not include the sets.

Technical Rehearsal. The first rehearsal where all the different parts of the production are brought together. The musicians perform live for the first time and the actors are in full costumes and wigs (if needed), using their performance (not rehearsal) props. All the sound cues are tested (as is the lighting, but not at the Globe). The technical rehearsal takes a long time (it will often take place over several days), as it will stop and start repeatedly.

Technical Rehearsal means an appearance which includes the following elements: (a) All performing Artists may appear in full costume and make-up; (b) All scenery, lighting, and props are utilized; (c) May include an invited, non-paying audience; (d) No printed program or announcement stating cast or program credits. Notification of dress/technical rehearsal make-up and hair requirements will be posted on the Company call board no later than half-hour call. All casts must be called, and all dancers called are required to be present, for first- cast run-throughs and notes of a dance piece. If this is violated, casts not called will be compensated for the duration of the first cast run through and notes at the Penalty rate for each hour or fraction thereof.
