The Waste Authority is an independent statutory tribunal created by the Minister for Environment in 2008 to administer the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery (WARR) Account.
The WARR Account is the source of waste related grants provided to Local Governments in Western Australia.
Those actions led by the Waste Authority and/or directly funded by the WARR Account are supported by business cases approved by the Minister, except for those covered in section 16 services and section 80 functions, which are addressed in the SLA between the Waste Authority and DWER.
The WARR Act requires that not less than 25 per cent of the forecast levy amount for the financial year is paid into the WARR Account.
In accordance with the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007 (WARR Act), each year the Minister for Environment must allocate not less than 25% of the forecast levy amount to the WARR Account.
The WasteSorted Grants - (“Program”) is a program funded from the Western Australian Government’s Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Account (WARR Account), which under section 80(1) (a) of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007 (WA) (WARR Act), may be used to fund programmes relating to the management, reduction, reuse and recycling, monitoring or measurement of waste.
WARR Account moneys may only be applied to programs and activities authorised under the approved business plan or as otherwise approved by the Minister for Environment.
The Waste Authority applies funds from the WARR Account to implement programs consistent with the annual business plan.
