Overtime/Compensatory Time. Overtime shall be paid for all hours worked in excess of the regularly scheduled workday. Compensatory time may be earned, in lieu of overtime, with prior mutual agreement between the employee and employer, for overtime hours or hours earned under 18.7 or 18.8 of this article. In no case will compensatory time be allowed, in lieu of overtime once the employee has reached the compensatory time limit in 18.11. Upon separation from employment, employees will be paid for any unused compensatory time.

Overtime/Compensatory Time. Except as noted in Section 14.1 regarding Detectives, when an employee is required by the Employer to work in excess of eighty (80) hours in a two (2) week, fourteen (14) day work period, exclusive of any paid meal periods, he shall be compensated at the rate of one and one- half (1½) times his regular straight time hourly rate for all such hours worked in excess of eighty (80) hours in the fourteen (14) day work period for Sergeants and Deputies. For Detectives all such hours worked in excess of the twenty-eight (28) day, one hundred and seventy-two (172) hour, work period should be compensated at the rate of one and one-half (1 ½) times his regular straight time hourly rate. Overtime compensation shall be at time and one-half (1½) in either overtime pay or compensatory time at the discretion of the employee. Whenever the Sheriff determines that overtime is necessary, such overtime assignments shall be rotated among qualified employees in a fair and equitable manner. Employees may accrue/bank compensatory time to a maximum of eight (80) hour in a pay year which will begin with the first day of pay period 1 each year. Any accrued, unused compensatory time at the end of the calendar year shall be carried over to the following year and apply to the maximum allowed to be accumulated in that year: for example, an employee with 40 hours balance at the end of the calendar year may then only accumulate an additional 40 hours in the following year. The granting of compensatory time requested may be granted subject to operational needs of the Sheriff s Office. Such requests shall be submitted to the employee’s immediate supervisor. No more than two (2) employees working the same shift will be granted vacation, compensatory time, and/or personal leave at/in a similar time period. Compensation shall not be paid more than once for the same hours under any provision of this Article or Agreement.

Overtime/Compensatory Time. A. Employees working assigned, pre-approved time in excess of forty (40) hours per week shall be given either overtime pay or compensatory time at the rate of one and one-half times the employee’s regular rate of pay. The name of the supervisor authorized to approve overtime assignments shall be posted in each building. The employee may elect to take either overtime pay or compensatory time off. Holidays, sick leave, personal days, or vacation days shall be included as regular time for purposes of computing overtime. In the event overtime is required, the Assistant Superintendent or his/her designee shall solicit volunteers to fill the overtime positions. In the event no volunteers are available or the volunteers available are unqualified in the opinion of the Assistant Superintendent or designee, overtime may be assigned. Overtime assignments will be made on a rotational basis at each work site to employees who normally do the work assigned. Reasonable advance notice will be given to employees assigned overtime. An employee shall not be called in for snow removal duty sooner than 8 hours following the conclusion of his/her regular shift or any other work performed for the District.
