Approved Coursework Definition. The following coursework shall be considered approved coursework:  the fields of study listed below; or  within the teacher's major or minor field; or  an assigned teaching area; or  that is in a program leading to an advanced degree or certificate endorsement; or  that is required by the District or approved by the Superintendent. Coursework must be completed at an approved institution with an earned grade of "C" or better. To be approved by the Superintendent, coursework shall be earned in accordance with a plan of study pre-approved by the Superintendent before coursework is begun and shall include semester hours of credit earned in, or related to, one or more of the following fields of study:  Instructional Theory into Practice  Effective Schooling  Competency Based Education  Teaching and Working in a multi-cultural environment, e.g. Inupiat language, culture, history, Alaskan studies, multi-cultural studies, Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act  Teaching in multi-graded schools  Assertive Discipline  Phonics  Balanced Literacy  Cooperative Learning  Computer Assisted Instruction/Educational Technology Notwithstanding the above, a teacher’s coursework that was accepted by the District prior to August 15, 1990 shall continue to be deemed approved.
