Battery Compartment. A well ventilated battery storage compartment shall house the batteries on the driver side of the chassis and shall be located so as to offer easy access to the batteries when the cab is tilted. Battery Compartment. The batteries shall be securely mounted on a stainless steel or composite tray that can accommodate the size and weight of the batteries. The battery tray shall pull out easily and properly support the batteries while they are being serviced. The tray shall allow each battery cell to be easily serviced. A positive locking device shall retain the battery tray in the stowed position. The battery compartment, area or enclosure shall be vented and self-draining. It shall be accessible only from the exterior of the vehicle. All components within the battery compartment, and the compartment itself, shall be protected from damage or corrosion from the electrolyte and gases emitted by the battery, and from snow, slush, salt spray, mud, etc. generated from environmental conditions outside the Trolley.
