Common use of BEREAVEMENT LEAVE AND/OR PAY Clause in Contracts

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE AND/OR PAY. Leave for all employees shall be provided because of death of a member of the employee’s immediate family provided, however, that employees shall not be entitled to bereavement pay during their probationary period, but will be given up to three (3) days off without pay. Pay for such leave shall be at the straight-time rate for the hours scheduled for each workday lost because of such absence to a maximum of three (3) calendar days within a period of sixty (60) days beginning with the day of death. The employee shall provide the Company with at least fourteen (14) days’ notice of the intended leave, or as much notice as is available under extraordinary circumstances, as determined by the Company, if the employee intends to take the leave more than fourteen (14) days past the date of death. Verification of time required for such paid leave shall be supplied to the Employer by the employee, if requested. Immediate family shall be defined as the employee’s spouse, child, mother, father, stepparent, brother, sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, xxxxxxxxxx, grandparent, stepchild, legal guardian, domestic partner, or other relative living in the employee’s home.
