BlueCard Program Access Fees Sample Clauses

The BlueCard Program Access Fees clause defines the charges associated with accessing and utilizing the BlueCard Program, which allows members to receive healthcare services from providers outside their home plan’s network. Typically, this clause outlines how these fees are calculated, who is responsible for paying them, and under what circumstances they apply, such as when a member receives care while traveling or living in another area. Its core function is to ensure transparency regarding additional costs incurred for out-of-network or cross-plan healthcare services, helping both the insurer and the insured understand and allocate these specific expenses.

A BlueCard Program access fee may be charged only if the Host Blue’s arrangement with its health care provider prohibits billing Covered Persons for amounts in excess of the negotiated payment. However, a health care provider may bill for non-covered health care services and for Covered Person cost sharing (for example, deductibles, Copayments, and/or Coinsurance) related to a particular Claim.
