Common use of Commander Clause in Contracts

Commander. If the grievance is not resolved in Step 1, the grievant may, within seven (7) calendar days following the Step 1 reply, refer the grievance to the appropriate Commander. If the Commander hears the grievance at Step 1, the grievance shall be referred to Step 3. The appropriate Commander shall have fourteen (14) calendar days in which to schedule a meeting, if he or she deems necessary, with the grievant and Lodge representative, if the grievant has requested Lodge representation. If the grievant desires to meet with the Commander, he or she shall so state in his grievance and the request shall be considered by the Commander. The Commander shall investigate and respond in writing to the grievant within fourteen (14) calendar days following the meeting date or fourteen (14) calendar days following receipt of the grievance, whichever is later.
