Conscientious Objector Status. 19.4.1 If a bargaining-unit member is a member of a bona fide religion, body or sect that has historically held conscientious objections to joining or financially supporting public employee organizations, or the bargaining-unit member can document a history of recognized conscientious objection in other similar situations based on strongly held personal convictions, he/she may file an application for Conscientious Objector status with the Association. Such application must be accompanied by appropriate documentation and a signed continuing payroll deduction authorization form, and must be received by the Association on or before the dates specified in 19.3. 19.4.2 Within thirty days of receipt of an application for Conscientious Objector status, the AAUP-UNH Executive Committee will review the merits of the application and notify the applicant of the Executive Committee’s acceptance or rejection of the application. If Conscientious Objector status is not granted, the applicant may appeal the Executive Committee’s decision through the Association’s internal agency fee appeals process, which provides for final and binding arbitration through the American Arbitration Association.
