Corrective. The City agrees discipline in the Fire Department shall be progressive and corrective, designed to improve behavior and not merely to punish. However, when the severity of an infraction is great, discipline outside the normal progression, up to and including dismissal, may be considered an appropriate remedy. Once the measure of discipline is determined and imposed, the City shall not increase it for the particular act of misconduct unless new facts or circumstances become known. Where the City believes just cause exists to institute disciplinary action, the employer shall have the option to assess the following penalties: 1. Oral reprimand 2. Written reprimand
