Course Preparations. No teacher shall be required to take more than three (3) different preparations per semester without notification and consultation with the teacher before the previous semester ends. If a teacher is assigned more than three (3) preparations, upon request, the teacher may be assigned as a resource teacher for that teacher's one- half (½) period daily Supervisory assignment.
Course Preparations. A. A course preparation shall be defined as a three (3) credit hour or higher course. A course that includes a lecture and clinical supervision will be considered a prep only for those Bargaining Unit Members assigned the lecture component. In any academic year, multiple sections of the same course shall be considered one (1) prep. Multiple courses taught at the same time by any one Bargaining Unit Member shall be considered one (1) prep. B. No later than three (3) weeks prior to the start of an academic term faculty members may request the Department Chairperson to change their course assignments among those available on the department schedule which they are qualified to teach if they have been assigned more than three (3) preparations in a semester and the other Bargaining Unit Members in the department do not exceed three (3) preparations in the semester as a result of the change.
Course Preparations. Normally, a full-time teaching load consists of no more than three (3) different course preparations. However, if the objective cannot be attained, the instructor either may agree to take more than three (3) preparations or agree to take a reduced teaching load at a partial contract.

Special projects (280's) will be counted as standard courses EXCEPT when the subject matter covered is essentially the same as another course assignment, a portion of a course or a combination of courses. e. Independent studies and prior learning evaluation (290's) will be given preparation credit ONLY when the subject matter is substantially different from a standard course (or other 280 or 290) included in the employeesassignment AND the independent study/prior learning evaluation was assigned by the Employer as part of the employees’ regular load. Course Preparations. For grades 6-12, except Middle School homeroom teachers, the number of different course preparations shall not normally exceed three (3) per day. For Middle School homeroom the number of different course preparations shall not normally exceed four (4) per day. Block classes shall be recognized as two (2) separate courses. Hi-CAP classes are to count as a single course preparation. Teachers may voluntarily agree to accept additional preparations exceeding the above limits. Participation in a teacher-student advisory program shall not be construed as a course preparation. PRIDE shall be recognized as a class/course. A teacher exceeding three (3) different course preparations as provided above may request assistance directly to the building principal for the purposes of obtaining relief of said subject preparations and related classroom/student requirements. Assistance will be provided consistent with the needs of relief to which the teacher and the administration agree. Such relief may include release time.

The Board agrees to exert every effort to avoid a situation from occurring where a teacher might be requested, on a voluntary basis, to accept a regular academic assignment over and above the maximum established in this Article. 2. a. The Board shall not assign more than three (3) different course preparations concurrently (e.g. 6 week course, 10 week course, semester, Trimester, marking period) and no middle or high school teacher shall be assigned more than six (6) course preparations in a school year, except in the case of the inability of making the course available to students or upon the mutual agreement of the teacher and his/her supervisor.

This limit may be exceeded if arrangements satisfactory to the instructional faculty member, the Department Chair, and designated supervisor are made. 21.4.2 At any given time, a full-time instructional faculty member assigned to a degree completion instructional position, or whose work assignment includes at least one third and/or fourth-year course, or who has received a scholarly activity assignment under clause 21.7 shall be assigned no more than two three-credit hour course preparations or their equivalents. With the exception of instructional faculty members in the Department of Nursing this maximum may be three preparations provided the instructional faculty member's total student count does not exceed 85. For instructional faculty members in the Department of Nursing this maximum may be three preparations provided the instructional faculty member's total student count does not exceed 70. These limits may be exceeded if arrangements satisfactory to the instructional faculty member, the Department Chair, and the designated supervisor are made.
