Dealing with buildings in budgets and accounts. At the moment, the Committees jointly use six buildings, of which five are under long term lease contracts and one is rented from the Commission. Funding for the buildings and related costs (energy, cleaning etc.) is provided through the two budgets by using the agreed sharing key. Leased buildings are integrated into the annual accounts on a shared basis and with due respect for the established rules. Building management works smoothly on a daily basis, in accordance with the policy documents and established plans. Strengths and shortfalls Whilst daily operations are efficient and effective, the Committees will strengthen even more strategic planning of their Joint Services, in particular in the area of buildings. To that end, further emphasis is placed on multi-annual project planning while ensuring sufficient appropriations for ongoing and new building projects. This is all the more important as the EU is expected to become owner of all of the 6 buildings currently occupied by the Committees, at the end of their lease contracts.
