Definition of Catastrophic Leave. 12.2.1 The intent of this bank is to provide additional financial protection to permanent employees during a period of prolonged illness/injury or hospitalization, which, for purposes of this Article, is defined as an illness or injury that incapacitates the employee or the employee’s family member as defined in Article 11.9.2 and is, according to a physician, likely permanently to incapacitate the employee or family member or be characterized as terminal.
