Emergency Trip. In the event the emergency trip has not been accepted during the rotation, the office will then do an all call one last time. At that time the trip in question will be offered for trade to any driver that is already out that day on a different trip. The trip will be assigned to the most senior driver that has responded. Once a trip is traded the unfilled trip will be called out for any driver or sub to take. The trip will be filled by the most senior driver requesting to cover. Emergency trips will have first priority in being assigned and shall be assigned as they become known to the Transportation Department to the next available driver who accepts the assignment on the roster. B. In an emergency, the office may have to call drivers at home to assign a roster trip. Should the office be unable to contact the next driver on the roster, the office will continue down the roster until the trip is assigned. If the office reaches an answering machine of the next driver up, a message will be left on the machine with a response deadline if the trip is not until the next day. If the trip is within twelve hours of the time of the call, a brief message will be left in order to verify a call was made and the next driver on the list will be contacted. A driver receiving such message is not eligible to call back and claim the work. C. A driver who cannot accept the emergency trip is NOT considered passed and maintains his/her place on the roster. D. A driver who accepts the said emergency trip also maintains his/her place on the roster. The emergency trip is considered a “free” trip to this driver.
