Employee Health and Safety Committee. The Employer will maintain a safe and healthful work place in compliance with Federal, State and local laws applicable to the safety and health of its employees. The Employer will continue its Employee Safety Committee in accordance with regulatory requirements. The purpose of this Committee shall be to investigate safety and health issues and to advise the Employer of education and preventative health measures for the work place and its employees. The Union may appoint one (1) member to the Committee. Employees are encouraged to report any unsafe conditions to their supervisors and to the Safety Committee and/or the Hospital’s Risk Manager by utilizing a Quality Assurance Memo. 21.1.1 Because back and musculoskeletal injuries are a major occupational hazard to healthcare workers, in the interest of prevention, the Committee shall have the authority to consider and make recommendations to the Occupational Medicine Committee regarding the prevention of musculoskeletal injuries, the identification of workplace risks and prevention techniques, including the use of lift teams and mechanical lifting devices, as well as practices already in place in the workplace.
